The GelCool Model GPRXL |
The Standard GelCool Gel Pack
The portion of the gel pack that fits into the open space in the upper helmet between the trauma pads is shaped like a horse shoe. The gel pack lays between the helmet's approved shock pads (anti-trauma pads). The gel pack is a single molded piece. The open horse shoe design allows the pack to self-size. A complete circle would not self-size.
GelCool Gel Packs' Rugged Construction Allows Hundreds of Re-Uses. Useful life of our gel packs is up to 2 years with proper care.
Drop in / Pop Out . The entire gel pack can be quickly inserted or removed (about 2 seconds). There is nothing to attach or connect. |

GelCool Gel Pack in a Football Helmet
This solid layer, which makes flat contact with the top of the user's head, provides even distribution of the cooling over the entire head contact surface. This layer uses a soft antibacterial microfiber pad for direct contact with the head. The user feels only the uniform "flat" soft fabric surface. With the gel pack in place, the helmet is more comfortable to wear than without, since the lower surface creates a soft, uniform contact area with the user's head. This design also avoids any "freezing" sensation. |

GelCool Systems Overview of Head Cooling Physiology |
1. Increased metabolic activity from exertion creates excess body heat.
2. Protective clothing inhibits the body’s ability to dissipate the excess heat.
3. GelCool Gel Packs cool cranial blood via thermal induction: blood carried throughout peripheral cranial vessels becomes cooler as gel packs absorb heat while cooling the cranium.
4. With cooler blood circulating, metabolic activity is reduced(1) and brain function improved.
5. Reduced metabolic activity allows the body to slow vital organ activity (heart, lungs).(1)
6. Perspiration is reduced since the need to dissipate excess heat has fallen(1).
7. Reduced perspiration leads to reduced loss of electrolytes, which improves endurance.
8. Pulmonary function is eased, allowing greater oxygenation of the brain and muscles.
(1) Reduction in metabolic/vital organ activity and perspiration are only possible if the body's thermoregulatory systems determine that overall body temperature is within a safe range.
